What do I do with unfinished wood furniture?

Posted by Penny Andrews on

Wood that has been left raw, or unfinished can give a beautiful and natural look to furniture such as tables. Ederra Home and Garden Decor offer two pieces that are made from unfinished, sustainably sourced fir wood.

Selling unfinished pieces is desirable in my opinion for two very important reasons. Firstly, it gives the buyer control over how the wood is finished (if at all). Once it's yours, you can customise the colour and use whatever stain or varnish you prefer. This includes having the choice of using eco-friendly paints and oils, (e.g. the range from Livos Australia) Secondly, it keeps the cost of the product down a bit, for me and therefore for you too.

As much as I love the look and feel of unfinished wood, I generally choose to protect it in some way. This is because it is likely to be exposed to at least some degree of wear and tear. Whether this comes from temperature, sunlight, food, drink or something else - a piece of furniture needs looking after and prevention of unsightly stains is easier than trying to clean it up afterwards.

Even if you're not much of DIYer, to finish a small piece of furniture is fairly simple and definitely worth the end result as it will ensure you get exactly the result you want.

Happy finishing!!!
